Golf terms for new parents
The words you will hear a coach use, in plain language.
Around the swing
Full swing — the long shot that sends the ball the greatest distance. Pitching — a shorter, higher shot near the green. Chipping — a low, short shot that rolls. Putting — rolling the ball on the green.
Contact means how cleanly the club meets the ball. Ball flight is the shape and height of the shot.
On the course
Tee box — where each hole starts. Pace of play — keeping up with the group ahead. Order of play — who hits when. Course care — replacing divots and raking bunkers.
In the program
Credit — one class. Session — four classes, not always a calendar month. Placement — the coach deciding which level a player joins. Showcase — the event that closes a series.
